Lerato Makhetha is hoping that South Africa will take this time to reflect on themselves – He hopes that they remember how we got through our past struggles and that we did it together, as one – Writing a song about unity, Lerato thought about the millions of people fighting this battle.
The 21-day lockdown is upon us and times will be tough. Actor and musician, Lerato Makhetha is hoping that South Africa will take this time to reflect on themselves and what struggles the continent is facing. Lerato dropped his new single recently which is what we can call a love letter to Africa. The former Isidingo star told TshisaLIVE that it is a call to all citizens to unite in these difficult times.
He started writing the song a year ago when the country was experiencing social unrest, xenophobic attacks, gender-based violence and marches. There was a common goal people were fighting for pre-1994, but as of now, people are fighting against each other. It is even more important now as we face a new enemy, This is the time that we all need to sit back and comprehend just how much we rely on each other and the fact that we need one another
Lerato said that he went through life trying to hide his father away, as he is the son of actor Jerry Mofokeng. He strived to make it on his own within the industry and be his own person. He went on to say that he grew up realizing that it played a big part of his heritage. Listening to African praise poets, entering into a room it is the ancestors that introduce you, which are your forefathers. You are been announced for the person you are and recognized as such. Lerato shared that it was important that he went back to that.
