The South African Social Security Agency has confirmed the SASSA October 2026 payment dates, giving millions of beneficiaries time to prepare for the new payment cycle.
Payments will begin with the Older Persons Grant on Friday, 2 October. Disability grants will follow on Monday, 5 October, while Children’s Grants will be available from Tuesday, 6 October 2026.
SASSA uses a staggered schedule to reduce congestion at retailers, banks, ATMs and other payment points.
Official SASSA October 2026 payment dates
The confirmed payment schedule is as follows:
- Older Persons Grant: Friday, 2 October 2026
- Disability Grant: Monday, 5 October 2026
- Children’s Grants: Tuesday, 6 October 2026
The Older Persons Grant payment date also covers relevant grants linked to qualifying pension beneficiaries. Meanwhile, Children’s Grants include the Child Support Grant, Foster Child Grant and other qualifying child-related payments.
Beneficiaries should note that payments do not begin on Thursday, 1 October. SASSA avoids making scheduled grant payments on the first day of the month, weekends and certain public holidays.
Because 3 and 4 October fall over the weekend, Disability Grant payments will only begin on Monday, 5 October.
Why SASSA payments are spread across three days
SASSA normally pays permanent social grants over three separate days. Older people receive their money first, followed by beneficiaries living with disabilities. Children’s Grants are then paid on the third scheduled day.
This system helps reduce pressure on payment infrastructure. It also limits overcrowding at ATMs, supermarkets, Postbank access points and participating retailers.
Beneficiaries do not have to withdraw all their money on the first payment day. Once deposited, the funds remain available in the beneficiary’s account until they choose to use or withdraw them.
Therefore, people who do not urgently need cash can avoid long queues by waiting until payment points are less busy.
What about the R370 SRD grant?
The Social Relief of Distress Grant does not follow the same three-day payment calendar.
Approved SRD beneficiaries receive individual payment dates after SASSA completes its monthly verification process. As a result, there is no single October payment date for every person receiving the R370 grant.
Applicants should check their individual status through the official SASSA SRD portal. The result should show whether the October application has been approved, declined or remains pending.
An approved status may also display a payment date. However, the money can take several working days to reflect, depending on the beneficiary’s bank and the verification process.
Beneficiaries should ensure that their banking information belongs to them. SASSA cannot deposit an SRD payment into another person’s account.
Social grant amounts for 2026
Grant increases announced during the 2026 Budget took effect from April.
The Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant and Care Dependency Grant increased to R2,400. People older than 75 and qualifying War Veterans receive up to R2,420.
Meanwhile, the Child Support Grant increased to R580. The Grant-in-Aid also rose to R580, while other grant categories received their respective adjustments.
The R370 SRD grant did not receive an increase. Government extended the grant at its existing value until 31 March 2027.
Actual payments may differ in cases involving deductions, eligibility changes or the application of an income-based sliding scale.
Beneficiaries targeted for SASSA reviews
Some beneficiaries may receive notices instructing them to visit a SASSA office for a review. These reviews help the agency confirm that recipients still meet the eligibility requirements.
Anyone contacted for a review should respond promptly and take the requested documents to the nearest SASSA office.
Ignoring a legitimate review notice could delay a payment or result in the grant being suspended. However, beneficiaries should confirm suspicious messages directly with SASSA before sharing personal information.
SASSA will not ask beneficiaries to send their PIN, card password or one-time banking password through WhatsApp.
How beneficiaries can receive their grants
Social grants can be deposited directly into a personal bank or Postbank account. Beneficiaries may also access their funds through approved retailers, ATMs and authorised payment points.
Those using a payment card should keep their PIN secret. They should never accept assistance from strangers at an ATM or hand their card to someone claiming to work for SASSA.
Before leaving a payment point, beneficiaries should count their cash discreetly and keep their receipt. Anyone experiencing an unexplained payment delay should visit a SASSA office for assistance.
SASSA warns beneficiaries about payment scams
Fraudsters often target grant recipients before scheduled payment dates. Some send fake messages claiming that beneficiaries must update their information through an unofficial website.
Others promise additional grant money in exchange for an “administration fee.”
Beneficiaries should avoid opening suspicious links or paying anyone to access a social grant. Applications, payment updates and eligibility reviews must be handled through official SASSA channels.
