English Premier League

West Ham wins 3 – 2 against Crystal Palace

Second-half goals from Robert Snodgrass, Javier Hernandez and Anderson gave the Hammers their third consecutive Premier League win and took them into the top half of the Premier League table.

Felipe Anderson’s sublime goal helped West Ham maintain their impressive run under Manuel Pellegrini as they came from behind to defeat Crystal Palace at the London Stadium.

James McArthur’s early goal had put Palace in command, with the midfielder prodding the ball past home goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski after reacting first to a James Tomkins knockdown.

ChicharitoBut the hosts were a different proposition after the break. Snodgrass curled in an equaliser from 20 yards and Hernandez then put them ahead after Wayne Hennessey could only parry Anderson’s free-kick.

The Hammers‘ top scorer then added a superb third, finding the top right corner from 20 yards – his sixth goal of the season.

While Palace rallied, with Jeffrey Schlupp’s header reducing their arrears, they could not find an equaliser, and fall to 16th in the table. Improving Hammers win again

In the build-up to this contest, Pellegrini was at pains to point out the progress his side has made after their dismal start of four straight defeats.

Since then, the Hammers’ form has been more that of a top six outfit, and they have now won three on the trot for the first time since December 2016.

In fact, the Chilean’s side have lost just once in seven outings and appear to be displaying the signs of a team that have hit their stride after integrating nine summer signings.

The balance and shape of the Hammers team is now established, which has allowed the likes of Anderson, recruited for a club record £36m fee from Lazio in the summer, to flourish.

A peripheral figure during the opening weeks, the Brazilian winger is now a key player and has registered five goals in his last six games.

He had more sprints than any other player on the pitch on Saturday (21), and his pace was a concern to Palace’s promising full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka throughout. He ultimately delivered the coup de grace for West Ham, with his effort proving decisive in the face of a Palace fight-back.
