HT Peru 0 – 0 Denmark: Another VAR crucial decision #WorldCupRussia

The deadlock remains unbroken at half-time in a very entertaining match indeed. Peru had the best chance of the game, getting a penalty after a VAR consultation by referee Bakary Gassama in added time, only for Christian Cueva to Waddle the ball over the bar with one of the worst penalties you’ll ever see. His team-mates gather round him to sympathise as he leaves the field for the interval.

Kasper Schmeichel

DRAMA!! VAR awards Peru a penalty! Christian Cueva was caught by the trailing leg of Poulsen. But the referee waved play on but the VAR intervened to give Peru the spot-kick.

Christian Cueva hesitates in his run-up, sends Kasper Schmeichel the wrong way and proceeds to sky his effort from 12 yards over the bar. That was awful.

There was a sad moment for Denmark as they were trying to find some groove with a spell of possession in the Peru half. It lasts a while and when they do lose it, Jefferson Farfan fouls Andreas Christensen.

William Kvist is going to need to be stretchered off, looks like a rib problem. Lasse Schone comes on in what is a blow for the Danes. Otherwise, it was an exciting 45 minutes we are now waiting for the second half.
