The family of Hillary Gardee laid wreaths and lit a candle outside the guest house she was allegedly murdered in to mark a week since her burial on Sunday, 15 May.
The 28-year-old was reported missing last month and her lifeless body was found dumped at a timber plantation about 40 kilometers outside Mbombela in Mpumalanga on 3 May. Gardee was laid to rest at Rocky’s Drift Cemetery near White River last weekend.
She was last seen at a shopping complex in Mbombela with her three-year-old daughter. The little girl was found wandering the streets of KaMagugu on the day that Gardee disappeared.
Gardee was found with stab wounds on her breast and at the back. She was also found with a gunshot wound at the back of her head.
In a tweet, her father who is the former EFF secretary-general and now a lawyer, Godrich Gardee said: “We laid a wreath & lit a candle at the Guest House of Horror. They shot her at the back of her head here and in return we came to give them flowers and a candle of peace. #RIPHillaryGardee #JusticeforhillaryGardee,” reads the tweet.
The University of Mpumalanga has since canceled the accreditation of Insika guesthouse as an accommodation facility for its students.
Three men have since been arrested for the gruesome murder of Gardee. They are facing charges of murder, rape, conspiracy, hijacking, kidnapping, possession of unlicensed firearm ammunition as well as defeating the ends of justice. The trio, Philemon Lukhele (47), Sipho Mkhatshwa (39) and Mduduzi Gama (52), abandoned their bail bid. They are expected back in court next month.
