Connie Ferguson Has Mzansi Talking After Bringing Harriet Khoza Back to the Timeline

Connie Ferguson has reminded South Africans why Harriet Khoza remains one of the most memorable characters in local television history.

The veteran actress and producer revisited the formidable The Queen character in a recent Flashback Friday post on Instagram. Dressed in a wide-brimmed black hat, tinted glasses and a colourful statement outfit, Connie instantly brought back Harriet’s unmistakable boss energy.

She captioned the post with the hashtags “Harriet Mathapelo Khoza” and “The Queen,” prompting thousands of likes and excited reactions from nostalgic viewers.

However, the post was a throwback rather than an announcement that The Queen is returning.

Harriet Khoza still commands attention

Connie played Harriet from the launch of The Queen in August 2016 until the Ferguson Films production ended in January 2023.

The character began as a privileged wife whose comfortable life was shattered by tragedy. Harriet subsequently took control of the family empire and became a powerful, complicated matriarch who could protect her family while terrifying her enemies.

Connie’s performance helped turn Harriet into one of Mzansi television’s most recognisable characters. Even years after the final episode, the hats, glasses and commanding outfits associated with Harriet remain instantly familiar.

Her latest post proves that audiences have not forgotten the character. It also arrived during an interesting period in Connie’s career, with another of her iconic television roles recently returning to the spotlight.

Karabo Moroka made a brief return

Connie recently reprised her role as Karabo Moroka in Generations: The Legacy.

She confirmed the comeback during an interview with SABC News, explaining that it would be a very short visit rather than a permanent return. According to Connie, Karabo was needed as the “glue” that could help the Moroka family address unresolved issues.

The appearance carried special significance because Karabo introduced Connie to millions of viewers. She began filming the original Generations in 1993, before its television premiere the following year.

Over the decades, Karabo developed from an ambitious young woman into one of the Moroka family’s most influential figures. Connie’s occasional returns have therefore become major moments for longtime viewers.

With Karabo recently appearing on television and Harriet returning to Connie’s Instagram page, two very different eras of her career have suddenly collided.

From actress to television powerhouse

Connie’s influence extends far beyond the characters viewers see on screen.

Together with her late husband, Shona Ferguson, she built Ferguson Films into one of South Africa’s best-known television production companies. Its catalogue includes The Queen, Rockville, Igazi, The Gift, The Throne and Netflix’s Kings of Jo’burg.

The Queen became the company’s longest-running production. It also created sustained employment for a large cast and production crew during its nearly seven-year run.

That history explains why a simple Harriet Khoza throwback can generate such a strong response. Viewers are not only remembering a fictional character. They are also revisiting a period when Ferguson Films dominated Mzansi Magic’s weekday schedule.

Connie Ferguson is also facing a property dispute

Away from entertainment, Connie’s company is involved in a legal dispute concerning a property in Ruimsig, Johannesburg.

Court papers filed by Connie Ferguson Trading Enterprise place the amount allegedly outstanding at R549,302. The claim reportedly includes occupational rent, municipal utilities and related charges.

The dispute developed after Vikar and Trisarnia Maharaj entered into an agreement to purchase the property and took occupation in December 2025. Connie’s company alleges that the couple later fell behind on payments under a R65,000-a-month occupational-rental arrangement.

The Maharajs filed a notice indicating that they intend to oppose the eviction application. Their grounds were not included in the initial notice, while the court had not delivered a ruling when the latest reports were published.

A legacy that keeps returning

Connie Ferguson has spent more than three decades building a career that moves between acting, producing and business.

Her latest Instagram moment may be rooted in nostalgia, but its impact feels current. Harriet Khoza’s confidence, elaborate wardrobe and commanding presence still connect with fans who followed The Queen for years.

Meanwhile, Connie’s brief return as Karabo Moroka has introduced another generation to the role that helped establish her as a household name.

There is no confirmed The Queen revival at present. Still, judging by the reaction to Connie’s post, Harriet Mathapelo Khoza could walk back onto Mzansi television tomorrow and immediately reclaim her throne.
