Parents of infants who died at Joburg hospital asked to come forward

The Human Rights Commission has called on the parents of nine infants who died at a Johannesburg hospital to come forward.

The babies passed away following a bacterial outbreak of necrotising enterocolitis, a disease mainly affecting the gut of premature babies.

The Commission says it’s time for the families to get redress.

Officials have inspected the Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital in Coronationville.

They’ve described the deaths as a violation of the right to access quality healthcare.

The SAHRC’s Buang Jones stated they embarked on a site inspection.

“It could be redressed in the form of compensation, a public apology…before a court of law if needs be.”
