According to Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter and Variety Netflix has cancelled Luke Cage. The Marvel show had two seasons on the streaming network.
The cancellation comes hot on the heels of the news that Iron Fist has also been cancelled
Both heroes star – along with Jessica Jones and Daredevil – in a series called The Defenders.
About Luke Cage Netflix and Marvel told Deadline, “Unfortunately, Marvel’s Luke Cage will not return for a third season.
“Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series.”
Trade publication Variety also reports that talks for a third season fell through after “creative differences.”
Fans have reacted on social media with mixed emotions about the show’s cancellation.
Damb. I wasn’t a Marvel/DC type kid but I invested in Luke Cage for the culture. I was excited about @AnnabellSciorra getting her just due, also excited for season 3 ep titles. What was reasoning @cheo_coker?

Gonna be honest, cancelling Iron Fist and Luke Cage, Marvel's 2 shows with the most POC presence, seems shortsighted at best, especially since both shows gave us Misty Knight and Colleen Wing, potentially two of their most compelling female heroines. pic.twitter.com/UNc4P3Fg85
