What’s happened to Jacob Zuma’s much-anticipated record deal. There’s been mounting confusion.
The former president was set to record struggle songs and release an album before the elections.
According to a proposal from the eThekwini municipality’s Parks and Recreation Unit, Zuma is set to benefit from the R200, 000 set aside for the project.
Zuma’s much talked about recording deal has become a political hot potato in the eThekwini Metro.
eNCA has seen a report from the municipality’s Parks and Recreation Unit, which had been submitted to the Community Service Committee about Zuma’s recording deal.
The report outlines budget estimations for the project.
However, the eThekwini Mayor is adamant the matter has not yet reached the council’s highest decision-making structures.
Thus, rendering it non-existent.
“There’s no records of that in my Executive Committee where I’m chairing that meeting and also in my Council meeting. But, I want to tell you again, don’t talk about something that is a hearsay talk about something that is factual,” said eThekwini Mayor, Zandile Gumede.
It’s not clear how many other artists are to be featured on Zuma’s supposed album or how much they’ll be paid.
Project leaders had planned for Zuma to release his album just before the elections.
