Unions demand better wage offer

Public sector unions are calling for an improved wage increase offer from the government by Friday.

Fedusa and Sadtu say they’ve secured a 7 percent increase but are still demanding an improved offer.

Fedusa General Secretary Riefdah Ajam says they want to finalize the increase by the end of this month.

“We have asked [the] government to review their offer to offset the ravages of inflation and make sure ultimately make sure that we uphold the mandate that has been given to us by our members from the start of the demands we have moved from ten percent Now we are looking at eight percent,” Ajam said.

“We are hoping the employer, as government, would be able to take all of this into account and it is our hope that they will come back to the chambers with an improved offer.”
