ANC MP Violet Siwela to be laid to rest in Mpumalanga on Saturday

The funeral of ANC MP Violet Siwela is taking place in her hometown of Bushbuckridge in Mpumalanga on Saturday.

The 68-year-old died last week Thursday after spending a few days in hospital.

Since her death, Siwela has been hailed as a trailblazer and a dedicated public servant.

The ANC held off its NEC meeting, which would resume on Sunday, to allow its top leadership an opportunity to attend the funeral.

Dr David Manzini, who helped treat Siwela, said her life should be celebrated not mourned.

“She passed on at the right time when we are supposed to vote. She passed on when we are supposed to do the right thing.”
