New rules gazetted for unrest cases in SA

New court directions have been gazetted for the processing of cases and accused through the Magistrate’s Court.
It aims to ensure a quicker trial.
Justice Minister, Ronald Lamola says it allows for the postponement of cases through audio-visual links and the compilation of a priority roll at each court.
This will also assist the courts in prioritizing cases of gender-based violence and s.e.xual offences among others.
These new rules apply under the adjusted alert level four lockdown regulations.
Special measures will also be put in place for cases of public violence and disorder as well as looting.
