Convicted rapist and murderer Thabo Bester literally walked out of the Mangaung prison.
The Bloemfontein magistrate’s court has heard how Bester was given a G4S uniform as a disguise to facilitate his escape.
The investigating officer in the case has detailed how five of the accused have been linked to the escape and roles they played.
Meanwhile, the Department of Correctional Services has made a request for Bester to make a virtual appearance next week.
The investigating officer says if the accused are released on bail, this could result in public outrage and that the accused could also interfere with investigations.
Bail proceedings will continue next week.
