Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Indian Premier League campaign got off to a disastrous start as Virat Kohli’s men posted the second lowest score in an opening fixture of an IPL season. The lowest score in an opening IPL game came in 2009 when Rajasthan Royals scored 58 against RCB in 2009. RCB was bundled out for 70 by Chennai Super Kings in Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium on Saturday. This is also the sixth lowest score in IPL history and the lowest total at Chepauk.

Spinners Harbhajan Singh and Imran Tahir wreaked havoc as they scalped three wickets each, while Ravindra Jadeja also picked up two.

The RCB batting line-up endured a disastrous outing, with opener Parthiv Patel top-scoring with 29 runs. Parthiv was the only batsman to reach double figures, while debutants Shimron Hetmyer and Shivam Dube scored 0 and 2 respectively. Skipper Virat Kohli, who was 52 runs short of 5,000 IPL runs, managed to get only six runs.
