Angie Motshekga says school admissions issues will be resolved

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga says the school admissions issues will be resolved.

Hundreds of parents went to the Gauteng Education Department and district offices in the province over placement for Grade 1 and Grade 8 pupils.

Motshekga however says those issues are being addressed by the provinces.

The minister visited some schools in Randfontein to monitor the first day of schooling.

The Gauteng Education Department says parents are also to blame.

The department’s spokesperson Steve Mabona said: “Many schools in the province, however, have had a first day that went ahead without interruption.”

The department says late registrations have now been opened.

It says outstanding placements will be completed by the end of the month.
