The Health Department reported close to 9,000 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total number of cases in South Africa to 205,721.
Of those who tested positive, almost 98,000 have recovered.
Gauteng and the Eastern Cape account for more than 65% of new cases confirmed in the last day.
The department reported 111 new deaths, bringing the death toll to 3,310.
Gauteng reported 50 deaths, the Western Cape 35, Limpopo 17, and the Eastern Cape 9.
South Africa has conducted more than 1.8 million tests.

Former Muvhango actress Lerato Zah Moloi has just announced that she tested positive for COVID-19. The actress disclosed the news through a video on her Facebook page and she said she contracted the virus a few days ago.

North West Co-operative Governance MEC, Gordon Kegakilwe has died as a result of a COVID-19 related illness. The MEC was admitted to a Vryburg hospital on Sunday.
He was transferred to a medical facility in Klerksdorp on Monday but suffered a heart attack on arrival. Cooperative Governance Minister, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, has sent condolences to the family of her North West MEC. read more…
