Reason Kante is not in Chelsea’s squad to face Norwich City

It has been a frustrating start to the 2019/20 Premier League season for N’Golo Kante and he was not in the Chelsea squad to face Norwich City this afternoon.

The Frenchman was on the bench for the opening game of the campaign due to an ongoing knee problem which was carried on from the previous campaign.

However, Kante then played 120 minutes in the Super Cup before starting the 1-1 draw with Leicester City last weekend, however, he has picked up another injury to add to the list.

The 28-year-old sprained his ankle during the week and is not fit to make the matchday squad at Carrow Road.

Frank Lampard had hoped to have the World Cup winner as part of the team for the game as the Blues try to get their first three points of the campaign.

However, Kante failed a late fitness test and now will be resting up and hoping to be back in action against Sheffield United at home next weekend. To make matters worse Pedro is also on the bench nursing an injury.

We wonder if Chelsea will make it as it is 2-2 at halftime with Pukki again on the scoreboard.

It seems Dean Smith was right to call for calm and a sense of perspective. “What are we coming to if we’re judging players after two games?” asked the Aston Villa manager on the eve of this game in response to questions about the performances of Wesley, the club-record signing, in his first two matches. Little more than 24 hours later Wesley registered his first goal in English football and Aston Villa’s season was up and running courtesy of a precious victory over a disappointing Everton side.

Villa, after suffering back-to-back defeats, will welcome the sight of three points on the board following a gutsy and spirited display. It was their first Premier League win since beating Norwich in February 2016, ending a miserable run of 15 top-flight fixtures without victory, and was greeted with huge cheers at the final whistle. read more
