Rape accused pastor Siyabulela Matini back in court

Residents of Green Point squatter camp in Cape Town on Monday protested outside the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court.

They called for a pastor who’s accused of rape to be denied bail. Siyabulela Matini (42) of the Worship of God Church has been charged with the rape of three girls, two of whom are siblings aged 11 and 14.

Matini, who was bust last week, was not asked to plead. He was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on 10 October.

Community leader Nokhanyo Mayongo (45) said the accused must rot in jail. We suspect more than three girls may have been violated,” Nokhanyo said.

In other news – Family wants justice for Lazarus Sebolai who was shot and killed

LAZARUS Sebolai was shot and killed on Wednesday. The 44-year-old father of three from Cosmo City, Joburg, was in his car when the incident happened. His brother Herman (47) said he heard gunshots outside their yard at about 6.20am.

He said neighbours told them the suspects were travelling in a white VW Polo. A resident told Daily Sun they didn’t feel safe anymore. Lazarus’ colleague said he was in pain and still confused about what caused the killing. Read more
