How to lose postpartum weight healthily

It is not easy pushing life out of you, the pain and the rigour on your body are out of this world and takes a toll.
You probably gained weight while you were pregnant because you had crazy cravings and you caved into them, now your body has morphed into something you are not sure of.

Your arms are flabby, your stomach looks like a deflated balloon and let’s not talk about how your vagina feels. It can be a very out of body experience.

According to the CDC, 1 in every 4 black woman will experience postpartum depression.  These body images stem from unrealistic expectations from social media compounded by personal insecurities. So what do you do about all that weight you gained?

1. Be realistic and patient
You should catch your breath first. You aren’t Kylie Jenner who is slaying a month after giving birth. You are a real woman in the real world and the weight you gained during your pregnancy is normal. It will take you about a year or two to lose the weight you gained.

2. Eat as much as you can
This is not the time to start dieting, you need to eat as much as you can because your baby is breastfeeding. Don’t starve yourself and the baby inevitably.

3. Move around / exercise
If you have the energy to hit the treadmill then by all means do that but if you do not have the energy for that, take walks with your baby, move around, and don’t just lock yourself in the house.

Do press-ups, squats and whatever you can do at home. Start with 15 minutes a day. Having an exercise buddy also builds consistency.

4. Bind your stomach
This is an agelong way to lose weight in your belly after childbirth. Whether it was a c-section or natural childbirth binding your stomach works.

Tie your belly with a wrapper to make it get back to shape. It also helps you feel better rather than walking around with a flabby stomach. It also helps your scars heal, do not use a waist trainer yet.

5. Eating healthy
You have to balance eating as much as you can with eating healthy. More fibre and fruits, fewer snacks and giving in to your cravings.
