Absa Run Your City 10KM ignites 2026 series as nearly 5000 runners take their stories to the streets

3 March 2026, Gqeberha – The 2026 Absa Run Your City Gqeberha 10KM kicked off an exhilarating year of road running this weekend, with nearly 5,000 runners and walkers filling the streets in a powerful display of purpose, passion, and perseverance.

Gqeberha Race Delivers a Powerful Start to the Series

Returning for the fourth consecutive year, the Gqeberha edition of the Absa Run Your City Series delivered an electric start, welcoming participants from all walks of life.

From first-time 10KM runners stepping onto the road with nervous excitement, to seasoned athletes chasing personal bests, and committed walkers moving with intention, the race created space for every participant’s story to be seen and celebrated.

The atmosphere throughout the city was filled with energy as supporters lined the streets, cheering participants on and helping create an unforgettable race-day experience.

“Take Your Story to the Streets” Inspires Runners

This year’s theme, “Take Your Story to the Streets. Take It to the Max,” came alive as thousands of runners and walkers showed up ready to dig deep and give their absolute best.

Jabu Nsibanyoni, Absa Head of Sponsorship, explained that the series continues to grow into something far greater than a traditional race.

“We’re challenging every runner and walker to go further, feel stronger, and chase the goals that matter most to them. It’s about more than distance, it’s about determination, resilience, and the pride that comes with giving your absolute best.”

The message resonated strongly among participants who took to the streets with enthusiasm, determination, and a shared sense of purpose.

Absa Run Your City Series Drives Community Impact

Beyond the excitement of race day, the Absa Run Your City Series continues to create meaningful impact across South Africa.

Through Absa’s R1 Campaign, every kilometre completed by Team Absa members on Strava contributes directly toward community development initiatives.

So far, the initiative has raised more than R10 million to support school vegetable gardens across South Africa. These gardens help provide nutritious food for learners while also strengthening community resilience.

Nsibanyoni highlighted the importance of the initiative, emphasising that the series is about more than just running.
