Respect our privacy: grieving family to politicians

A memorial service took place in Elsies River on Friday morning for the three children who were shot and killed on Tuesday night in the area.

An 18-year man also died in the shooting.

According to community members he is believed to have been the target.

The mother of the three children was also shot and wounded in the incident.

Conley Viljoen, a family representative, said: “we as the family, ask that any political party that is hoping to take advantage, please: respect our privacy and don’t take our heartache as an opportunity to broaden your platform for votes.”

Viljoen said no political party has approached the family but were in the area and the family did not appreciate seeing them.

Three suspects arrested in connection with the murder are due to appear in court on Friday.
