Firefighters still battling Overberg blaze

Rain is bringing some relief for firefighters battling a blaze in Overberg in the Western Cape.

Firefighters hope it will spread to cover more areas.

Overberg fire chief Reinard Geldenhuys believes the fire was started by two children.

Geldenhuys said the winds prior to the rain made putting the fire out on Tuesday difficult, but the cooler temperatures and rain would help on Wednesday.

“Our firefighting activity is still going on,” he said.

Geldenhuys said the firefighters were sufficiently staffed to extinguish the blaze.
