Over 500 traffic officers test positive for COVID-19

Over 500 traffic officers have tested positive for COVID-19, while over 30 died over the festive season. Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula, says this severely impacted safety campaigns.

Mbalula was releasing the 2020 festive season road statistics on Friday. 518 traffic officers have tested positive for COVID-19 and had to be isolated, while 33 passed away during the period under review,” he said.

Meanwhile, the country recorded 1,448 fatalities from 1,210 crashes.

This represents a seven-per cent decline in fatalities and a 10.3-percent decline in crashes, year-on-year.
