North West police have arrested seven suspects for kidnapping and extortion after two teenagers were abducted in front of a primary school in Brits.
Zahraa and Bataviya Mohammed were snatched earlier in March while on their way to school in Hartbeeespoort.
In a brazen daylight attack, their car was bumped from the front by another vehicle, compelling the 17 and 19-year-old cousins to stop.
It’s understood that two armed men emerged from the vehicle and instructed the cousins to enter a white car before speeding away.
The police’s Sabata Mokgwabone said the pair was rescued on Monday night at a house at New Stands, near Mabopane.
“The provincial commissioner of police in North West, lieutenant-general Sello Kwena commended a multi-disciplinary team for working tirelessly to locate the cousins.”
Mokgwabone said the victims were examined by paramedics at Klipgat police station and “found to be in a good state of health except for exhaustion and trauma.”
They were safely reunited with their families.
