Multiple people rescued from Salt Rock non-swimming beach

KwaZulu-Natal: At 13H53 Saturday afternoon Netcare 911, NSRI Station 41, as well as other Emergency services, responded to reports of a drowning at an unprotected non-swimming beach in Salt Rock North of Ballito.

Reports from a source at the scene indicate that a group of swimmers got into difficulty while swimming.

A 53-year-old male who witnessed the event rushed to the rescue pulling one person out the water and bravely returned to assist the others.

The man managed to retrieve a 17-year-old female who was part of the group who became submerged while swimming but experienced difficulties himself.

Both patients were moved to shore where KwaDukuza Lifeguards assessed the female where she was found to be not breathing and unresponsive.

CPR was initiated by the KwaDukuza Lifeguards prior to the arrival of ambulance services who initiated a full advanced life support resuscitation successfully regaining a pulse.

A Helicopter ambulance airlifted the young female in a critical condition to the hospital. The adult male was stabilized on the scene and transported by Netcare 911 ambulance to the hospital for further assessment.

Johannesburg youth have taken a stand against gender-based violence, handing over a memorandum to the city’s leadership.

The solidarity protest, which took place on Saturday in the Johannesburg CBD, was organized by the Johannesburg Student Council Alumni Network (JSC ALNet).

The JSC ALNet is a network of Johannesburg’s future leaders, consisting of high school pupils, students at tertiary institutions and young professionals, who aim to create awareness of the importance of civic responsibility through skills and leadership development. see more
