Motorists warned as festive season kicks off

Don’t meet the wrong people by accident on the road this festive season,” that’s the message from the Road Accident Fund.

The organization is joining forces with emergency services, who will be working overtime these holidays.

The first responders see first-hand how crashes ruin lives and tear families apart.

Through this campaign, they are getting a chance to tell their tragic stories, in an effort to encourage motorists to drive more responsibly.
The Western Cape traffic department has warned motorists they will be locked up if they don’t adhere to the rules of the road this festive season.

The department also advising long-distance travellers to take rest breaks during their journeys.
Traffic volumes on all the major routes are expected to increase on Friday morning as people make their way to holiday destinations.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation is warning motorists to exercise extreme caution and to abide by the rules of the road.

Last year, accidents claimed more than 1,500 lives over the festive period.

Major traffic will pass through the Mariannhill Toll Plaza along the N3 Route.
