Aston Villa have officially confirmed that new signing Marcus Rashford will wear the No. 9 jersey for the remainder of the season.
The English forward joined Villa from Manchester United over the weekend on an initial loan deal until the end of the season. The agreement includes an option to sign him permanently for a pre-agreed fee of £40 million, should both clubs agree to make the move permanent in the summer transfer window.
This move marks a significant shift in Rashford’s career, as the 26-year-old forward leaves Old Trafford after spending his entire footballing life at Manchester United.
Rashford’s Squad Number at Villa
During his time at Manchester United, Rashford wore the No. 10 shirt since the summer of 2018. Before that, he had two previous squad numbers, having initially made his first-team debut wearing No. 39 before being promoted to No. 19 at the start of the 2016-17 season.
Despite the No. 10 jersey being available at Villa Park, following Emiliano Buendía’s recent departure to Bayer Leverkusen on loan, Rashford has been assigned the No. 9 shirt.
This number was recently vacated by Jhon Durán, who left the club after completing a £65 million move to Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League.
