Romelu Lukaku scored twice in the first half as the Red Devils were largely untroubled by their hosts. Manchester United recovered from back-to-back defeats to beat Burnley despite Paul Pogba missing a penalty and Marcus Rashford being sent off.
Pogba had the chance to stretch United’s lead midway through the second half but his penalty – after Aaron Lennon fouled Rashford – was saved by former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart.
And two minutes later the visitors were reduced to 10 men when Rashford was sent off for leaning into Phil Bardsley with his head. That made the closing stages unnecessarily tense for Jose Mourinho’s side, but the Clarets were unable to find a goal.

But it was not all good news for Jose Mourinho, who received vocal backing from the United fans, as substitute Marcus Rashford was sent off in the 71st minute for pushing his forehead into Phil Bardsley’s head.
Lukaku opened the scoring in the 27th minute with a simple back-post header from an Alexis Sanchez cross and doubled the advantage just before the break from close range. Paul Pogba had a 69th-minute penalty saved by Burnley’s former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart but despite the red card Mourinho’s side hung on comfortably for their second win of the season.
