Lewis Hamilton revealed the queen scolded him for his table manners

Queen Elizabeth II gave Lewis Hamilton the low-down on dining etiquette. After being presented with the Most Excellent of the British Empire (MBE) award in 2009, the 34-year-old was invited to lunch, along with eight other guests, with the queen, Fox News reports. But the monarch was less than impressed after the Formula One racing driver made a blunder at the luncheon.

I got invited to a lunch and was sitting next to the queen,” Lewis said recently during his appearance on The Graham Norton Show.I was excited and started to talk to her but she said, pointing to my left, ‘No, you speak that way first and I’ll speak this way and then I’ll come back to you.

She is a sweet woman and we talked about how she spends her weekends, houses and music. She’s really cool.

In her book My Husband And I, The Inside Story Of 70 Years Of The Royal Marriage, royal author Ingrid Seward unpacked the queen’s etiquette rules, Daily Express reports.

“The queen always chooses who she wants to sit beside, and this most important male guest will be on her right, while Prince Philip has the most interesting female guest on his right. People are always somewhat surprised to see that the queen doesn’t sit at the head of the table,” Seward writes. Her place on these occasions is in the middle, with Prince Philip facing her.
