Actress Lerato Mvelase celebrates a milestone

TALENTED actress Lerato Mvelase recently took to social media to reminisce about her first days of acting 28 years ago.

The former Isibaya actress remembered how excited she was to be paid to do what she loved, and the joys of working with amazing creatives.

“In 1995, I set foot in a professional theatre as an actress. The lights, set, actors, script and white people – I had never met them so closely until then, as well as real-life professional directors,” she wrote.

“I was galvanised into a space that made me realise that black child it is possible. I got paid with a brown envelope every Friday. I got paid to do what I love. I knew then that God lived in me,” she continued.

So, as a celebration for her 28 years in acting, Lerato said she would soon be starring on a play at the Market Theatre.

She said she would be working with actor Antony Coleman and Market Theatre art director James Ngcobo.

“I’ve worked with amazing creatives over the years and built amazing professional friendships. These images are to say, I will always be an actress. Do expect to see me soon with @antonycolemann on stage @markettheatre. What a way to celebrate my 28 years in the business. What more can a woman ask for? And, we all know that James is one of the best producers, actors and directors. I’m overflowing. I’ll keep you posted,” she said.

Lerato also recently celebrated going back to school. Last week, she announced she was studying towards a post-graduate diploma in business management.
