Mohamed Salah has completed a sensational move to Trabzonspor, bringing an end to weeks of speculation about his future. The Egyptian superstar joins the Turkish club on a free transfer after leaving Liverpool.
Trabzonspor reported the transfer through Turkey’s national stock exchange disclosure platform, KAP. Salah has agreed to a contract that will keep him at the club until 2028.
Therefore, the deal is no longer at the negotiations stage. Mohamed Salah joins Trabzonspor as the club’s biggest signing and one of the most high-profile arrivals in Turkish football history.
Trabzonspor Win the Race for Mohamed Salah
Salah attracted interest from clubs across Europe, Saudi Arabia and Major League Soccer after ending his Liverpool career. However, Trabzonspor moved quickly and convinced the 34-year-old to continue playing in Europe.
Beşiktaş previously appeared to lead the race for his signature. Nevertheless, those discussions failed to produce an agreement, allowing Trabzonspor to make its move.
Club president Ertuğrul Doğan confirmed that he held talks with Salah and his agent. According to Doğan, the discussions lasted around ten days before both parties reached an understanding.
“We rushed to finalise the deal as soon as other teams withdrew,” Doğan said. “I held a meeting with Mohamed Salah and his agent. It was a very professional and respectful meeting.”
Doğan also described Salah as a global star and said Trabzonspor needed a player of his quality. Moreover, the president believes the transfer sends a message that the club can attract football’s biggest names.
Salah Signs Contract Until 2028
Salah has signed a two-year contract that runs until 2028. Since he joined as a free agent, Trabzonspor did not need to pay Liverpool a transfer fee.
Reports in Turkey claim Salah will earn approximately €17 million net per season. If accurate, that package would make him the highest-paid player in Trabzonspor’s history.
However, the club had not released a complete breakdown of his salary, bonuses and commercial agreements at the time of publication.
Trabzonspor teased the transfer by sharing Egyptian-themed content on social media. One video featured a pyramid outside the club’s stadium alongside the words “Always believing,” which also appear on Salah’s social media profile.
The announcement immediately created huge excitement among supporters. As a result, fans began preparing a special welcome for the Egyptian captain in Trabzon.
Liverpool Legend Begins a New Chapter
Salah joins Trabzonspor after completing one of the greatest careers in Liverpool’s history. He arrived at Anfield from Roma in 2017 and spent nine seasons with the club.
During that period, Salah scored 257 goals in 442 appearances across all competitions. He also left as Liverpool’s third-highest goalscorer, behind only Ian Rush and Roger Hunt.
The Egyptian helped Liverpool win two Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League. In addition, he lifted the FA Cup, two League Cups, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
His 2024/25 campaign ranked among the greatest individual seasons in Premier League history. Salah scored 29 league goals and supplied 18 assists as Liverpool won the title.
Consequently, he collected the Golden Boot, Playmaker award and Premier League Player of the Season prize. Salah became the first player to win all three awards during the same campaign.
Although his final season at Liverpool proved more difficult, his overall legacy remained secure. He left Anfield as a club icon and one of the most successful African players in European football.
What Salah Brings to Trabzonspor
Salah gives Trabzonspor proven goals, leadership and experience at the highest level. He can operate from the right wing, play through the middle or create opportunities for teammates.
Furthermore, his arrival will significantly increase international interest in the Turkish club. His global following could boost shirt sales, sponsorship opportunities and Trabzonspor’s profile outside Turkey.
On the field, the club wants Salah to lead a renewed title challenge. Trabzonspor finished third in the 2025/26 Süper Lig season, behind champions Galatasaray and runners-up Fenerbahçe.
The third-place finish also secured European football. Trabzonspor will compete in the UEFA Europa League play-off round as it attempts to reach the main phase of the competition.
Salah could make his competitive debut when Trabzonspor opens its league campaign away to Kasımpaşa on 15 August. However, his involvement will depend on registration, fitness and the coaching team’s final decision.
The former Liverpool forward joins a squad featuring several familiar names. They include André Onana, Stefan Savić and former Southampton striker Paul Onuachu.
Trabzonspor last won the Süper Lig title during the 2021/22 season. Now, with Salah leading the attack, supporters will believe another championship challenge is possible.
The Egyptian King has conquered England and Europe. His next challenge will come on the Black Sea coast, where Trabzonspor hopes its blockbuster signing can transform the club’s fortunes.
