Jacaranda FM has welcomed a fresh voice to its afternoon line-up. Broadcaster and journalist Karabo Peter has joined the station as the new sports presenter on its award-winning show, The Drive with Rob & Roz.
Karabo will work alongside presenters Rozanne McKenzie and Rob Forbes every weekday from 16:00 to 19:00. Her first broadcast takes place on Monday, 3 August 2026.
The appointment marks an exciting career move for Karabo. It also opens a new chapter for the drive show following the departure of longtime sports presenter Joe Mann.
Karabo Peter Brings Sport and Storytelling Together
Karabo has built her broadcasting career around two major passions: sport and storytelling. Her experience spans radio, journalism, digital media and professional voice work.
She began her journey in community radio, where she worked as a sports reporter. Later, she freelanced for YFM before joining VOW 88.1 as a sports anchor.
Karabo spent two years presenting sports content on the VOW 88.1 drive show. During that period, she strengthened her live broadcasting skills and developed her ability to turn major sporting moments into engaging radio stories.
In addition, Karabo has contributed to SABC Sport’s The Journos’ Vodcast. The programme features discussions about sport, journalism and the stories shaping the industry.
Her work has also taken her beyond the microphone. Karabo writes for Good Things Guy, a popular South African publication focused on uplifting stories and positive change.
Through that role, she has covered sport, community projects, inspiring individuals and stories of resilience. Therefore, her appointment gives Jacaranda FM a presenter who understands both fast-moving sports coverage and human-centred storytelling.
Karabo Celebrates Major Career Move
Karabo said she felt excited to join The Drive with Rob & Roz and become part of the wider Jacaranda FM team.
“What drew me to the station isn’t just its reputation as South Africa’s number one feel-good station, but its genuine commitment to making a difference beyond the airwaves,” she said.
Throughout her career, Karabo has focused on stories that inspire people and celebrate communities. As a result, she believes the station’s values closely match her approach to broadcasting.
“Joining a team that shares those values feels like a natural fit,” she added.
However, Karabo also recognises the responsibility that comes with joining an established and award-winning programme.
“It’s an honour to become part of an award-winning show, and it’s a responsibility I don’t take lightly,” she said. “I’m looking forward to bringing my passion for sport and storytelling to listeners.”
Karabo also hopes to learn from some of the country’s most experienced broadcasters. At the same time, she plans to bring her own personality and perspective to the show.
“I can’t wait to grow, contribute and be part of a team that truly makes people feel good every day,” she said.
Jacaranda FM Backs Emerging Broadcasting Talent
Jacaranda FM Programme Manager Ravi Naidoo described Karabo as an energetic broadcaster with a genuine passion for sport.
According to Naidoo, the appointment forms part of the station’s commitment to finding and developing the next generation of South African broadcasting talent.
“We believe in creating opportunities for emerging voices to grow alongside some of the industry’s most experienced talent,” he said.
Naidoo praised Karabo’s ability to tell engaging stories and connect with audiences. Moreover, he believes she will bring a fresh perspective to the station’s sports coverage.
“She has a natural ability to tell stories and connect with people,” Naidoo said. “We know she will bring a fresh perspective to our sports coverage while fitting seamlessly into the feel-good energy of The Drive with Rob & Roz.”
The station announced Karabo’s appointment shortly after Joe Mann delivered his final sports bulletin on Friday, 31 July 2026. Mann left Jacaranda FM after seven years on air.
Karabo now steps into the role as the programme begins its next chapter. She will deliver sports updates while joining the conversations, humour and entertainment that have made the afternoon show popular with listeners.
Fans can hear Karabo Peter on The Drive with Rob & Roz every weekday from 16:00 to 19:00 on Jacaranda FM. Listeners can also follow the show through the station’s website and mobile app.
