Legendary New Orleans musician Dr John has died at 77. The six-time Grammy winner who brought voodoo vibes to American music with his gravelly Bayou drawl was born Mac Rebennack. According to a statement released through his publicist, the musician died of a heart attack.
The statement also said that memorial arrangements were being planned and added: “The family thanks all whom have shared his unique musical journey, and requests privacy at this time,”.
Rebennack was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 2011 by John Legend, according to the Telegraph.
Dr John – who played with the Grateful Dead, jammed on the Rolling Stones’ Exile on Main Street album and collaborated with a slew of other talented artists – was remembered by Ringo Starr and Debbie Harry to name a few.
