Kim Kardashian Launches New Face Wrap—Experts Weigh In on the Trend

JAKARTA – Reality star and entrepreneur Kim Kardashian has once again captured global attention with the launch of a surprising new product under her shapewear brand, SKIMS. This time, it’s not just about sculpting the body—Kardashian is turning her focus to the face. Introducing the Seamless Sculpt Face Wrap, a head-strapping accessory marketed as the next essential step in your nighttime beauty routine.

Retailing at $48 (approximately IDR 785,000), the face wrap is designed to contour the jawline and enhance facial definition while you sleep or relax at home. According to SKIMS, the product is made from the same stretchy material that helped skyrocket the brand’s bodysuits and shapewear to popularity: a blend of polyamide and elastane, now infused with collagen threads for additional skin-tightening support.

The wrap fastens with Velcro straps at the crown of the head and around the neck, allowing for a snug yet adjustable fit. Kim Kardashian herself describes the product as both effective and comfortable.

“It really pulls your chin,” she said in a promotional quote cited by the New York Post. “It’s super comfortable to wear when sleeping or just hanging around the house.”

The Seamless Sculpt Face Wrap is SKIMS’ first facial-focused innovation and has already stirred up conversations across social media platforms, with some users praising the brand for its bold creativity, and others questioning whether the results are more gimmick than game-changer.

Kim Kardashian’s Face Wrap Sparks Global Buzz — But Do Experts Approve?

While the product promises to be the next must-have for face-slimming and jawline sculpting, medical professionals are sounding a more cautious note. According to Dr. Anil Shah, a plastic surgeon who practices in both New York and Chicago, any visual effect the wrap produces is likely to be short-lived.

“This product will not provide long-term structural changes to the face,” said Dr. Shah. “To genuinely contour the jawline, you’d need to remove fat, tighten skin, or train the neck muscles—none of which this wrap accomplishes.”

Similarly, Dr. Konstantin Vasyukevich, a facial plastic surgeon, noted that while the wrap might temporarily make the jawline appear more sculpted, the change lasts only a few hours.

“It can give the illusion of a more defined jawline briefly,” he explained. “But the effect fades quickly—it’s not permanent or transformative.”

Despite the lack of long-term benefits, some experts acknowledge that the concept behind the face wrap is not entirely without merit. Dr. Yael Halaas, another New York-based plastic surgeon, pointed out that similar compression garments are commonly used in post-operative care.

“Designs like this are typically used after surgeries such as facelifts or liposuction to reduce swelling and aid in healing,” Dr. Halaas said. “However, in non-surgical use, the benefits are far less significant.”

In such medical contexts, the wrap helps control inflammation and supports tissue in healing. But for everyday use by the general public, whether the product truly enhances facial contours or just offers a fleeting placebo effect is still unclear.

While the SKIMS Face Wrap is marketed as a harmless beauty accessory, some doctors warn that prolonged or overly tight usage may lead to undesired side effects. Dr. Oren Tepper, a plastic surgeon, warned of risks including reduced blood circulation, lymphatic fluid buildup, and even under-eye swelling.

“If the compression is too intense, it can inhibit blood flow and slow the body’s natural healing process,” he said. “Used casually, it’s likely harmless—but it may still cause irritation or discomfort.”

Dr. Shah added another concern: wearing the wrap too frequently could potentially weaken the platysma—the muscle in the neck responsible for facial movement and tension—and might even cause allergic reactions to the material over time.

“Overuse could lead to muscle weakening or a sagging sensation. Some users might also experience skin irritation or material sensitivities,” Shah cautioned.

Despite the glowing endorsements from Kim Kardashian and her brand, medical experts remain skeptical about whether the Seamless Sculpt Face Wrap delivers results that justify its price or popularity. Like many beauty trends backed by celebrity hype, its actual efficacy may lie more in presentation and perception than in proven, lasting impact.

That said, fans of SKIMS—and of Kim Kardashian herself—continue to flock to the product, intrigued by its promise of a quick-fix sculpting solution. Whether it’s a true innovation or just the latest viral beauty accessory, one thing is certain: Kim Kardashian has once again found a way to blend pop culture, beauty aspirations, and bold marketing into a worldwide talking point.

As with all beauty products, especially those promising body or facial transformation, experts advise consumers to do their research, consult professionals when necessary, and temper expectations with reality.
