Conflict Escalates as Israel Bombs Qatar

On Tuesday, September 9, 2025, Israel launched a significant airstrike on Hamas leaders in Doha, Qatar, marking a notable escalation in its military operations across the Middle East. The strike targeted a residential compound in the Legtifya district, an area under constant surveillance by Qatar’s Emiri Guard since the onset of the Gaza conflict. Witnesses reported multiple explosions, with black smoke rising from the site.

Among those reportedly targeted was Khalil al-Hayya, Hamas’s exiled Gaza chief and chief negotiator in ceasefire talks. Al-Hayya, a senior Hamas official, has emerged as a central figure in the group’s leadership following the deaths of Ismail Haniyeh and Yahya Sinwar. He has been a key negotiator in ceasefire talks with Israel and has strong ties with Iran.
