Alleged insurance killer’s family members relieved after she was denied bail

Family members of a woman accused of murdering her relatives for financial gain said they would sleep better knowing that she would remain behind bars for the duration of her trial.

An emotionless Segomotsi Setshwantsho stood in the dock on Friday morning as her bail judgment was handed down.

The court found that she failed to present exceptional circumstances that warranted her release, saying she was not a suitable candidate for bail.

Setshwantsho is being investigated for the murders of her husband, son, and daughters all allegedly for life insurance payouts.

A courtroom packed with relatives of Segomotsi Setshwantsho breathed a sigh of relief as she was denied bail on Friday.

Some of those in the gallery were on her list of relatives whom she took out life insurance policies without their knowledge.

Boikhutso Matolo is the sister to Bonolo Modiseemang, one of Setshwantsho’s alleged victims.

Setshwantsho also had an insurance policy out on her.

“I have been living in fear. Even now, yes, I’m happy she is denied bail but I am still fearful when I think about what she could have done to us.”

Police believe Setshwantsho had approximately 40 life insurance policies on various family members and relatives that police believe were on her hit list.
