Four dead after Durban house collapse

At least four people have been confirmed dead in a house collapse in Malvern, Durban.

Part of the house collapsed following heavy rainfall in the area overnight.

Rescuers worked through the night to free the trapped family.

Two people have been taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Meanwhile, two people have been rescued from the caretakers’ quarters at the Westcliff Secondary school in Durban.

The building collapsed on Monday night after torrential downpours.

Three children and a woman remain trapped.

Rescue operations were halted on Monday night due to poor visibility and the possibility of a mudslide.

Residents living near the school have been advised to evacuate their homes.

In Overport, a woman in her 70s has been freed after her home caved in.

Her son, who was badly injured, was declared dead at the scene.
