An excellent opportunity exists for a Financial Accountant with financial accounting experience at an international company within the maritime industry. The Financial Accountant will be based at the client’s offices in Cape Town, Western Cape.
Candidates with experience in ERP, Inventory systems and internal controls in production/manufacturing environments will be preferred.
The Financial Accountant assists in the accounting, tax and control function in the finance department. The Financial Accountant will report to the Senior Financial Accountant.
Function Purpose:
The purpose is to develop and monitor internal controls for Inventory and Fixed Assets and to assist in the development of processes and procedures in other areas. Taxation responsibilities for the company including preparing transfer pricing, liaising with the tax department in the Netherlands, VAT and Income Tax calculations, for review by the Senior Financial Accountant and Finance Manager. Financial Accounting responsibilities for the company, including IFRS compliance and to carry out ad-hoc tasks as required.
Core Activities:
Developing and monitoring internal controls for Inventory.
Take full responsibility for the maintenance, controls and reporting of fixed assets.
Manage foreign creditors cycle and related FX reporting and reporting.
Monthly reconciliations of intercompany creditors.
Monthly reconciliations of intercompany loans.
Document the manufacturing process in terms of financial impact.
Preparing lease accounting calculations for review by the Senior Financial Accountant.
Assisting the Senior Financial Accountant with IFRS 15 and IFRS 9 compliance for revenue and receivables.
South African Taxation Reporting requirements, transfer pricing, liaising with head office tax department for any tax requests.
Achieving month-end deadlines.
Project recognition and WIP reporting.
Liaising directly with the external auditors on the allocated sections as per job description as well as any other ad hoc query from the auditors.
Assistance with the preparation of the Annual Financial Statements and IFRS compliance.
Ad-hoc reporting and requests from the Finance Manager and Senior Financial Accountant.
Financial controls and processes to be adhered to and any deviations to be reported to the Senior Financial Accountant.
Pro-actively identifying areas for continuous improvement of processes and procedures.
Back up to Senior Financial Accountant and Senior bookkeeper where required.
Requirements:
Degree in Finance or similar.
3 to 5 years post articles experience in Financial Accounting or similar function, preferably in the Maritime industry or in another Project related industry.
Experience in production/manufacturing environments.
Inventory and ERP system experience.
Must be able to work with others, be assertive, team player.
Proficiency in English is a must.
Must have a hands-on and no-nonsense mentality, and aware of cultural differences.
Able to work to tight deadlines.
MS Excel and MS Word literacy required at advanced level.
