Over 3 500 arrests on the roads during festive season, so far

More than 3,500 people have been arrested for reckless driving since the beginning of the festive season.

This according to the Road Traffic Management Corporation’s Simon Zwane.

Zwane is urging motorists to exercise caution when travelling to various destinations.

“We’ve seen a high number of people being arrested for reckless behaviour on the roads — 3,500 have been arrested already, 2,000 have been discontinued and 2,300 have been impounded,” he said.

“We will keep vigilant as people are travelling to the coast for the new year’s holidays. Major crashes are at around 20 as compared to seven that we had last year. The total numbers will be released by the minister, we’re still putting together the number of fatalities so far.”
