WATCH: American rapper Fat Joe dancing to Amapiano – Mzansi reacts

The Amapiano music genre, originally from South Africa, is moving swiftly into the world and is competing with other music genres. Recently American rapper Fat Joe of the ‘Making it rain’ fame shared a video of himself enjoying an Amapiano beat.

Born Joseph Antonio Cartagena but known by his stage name Fat Joe, the rapper started as a member of the Diggin’ in the Crates Crew before beginning a solo career as a record owner. He started the record label Terror Squad and signed Big Pun, Remy Ma, Cuban Link, Prospect and Triple Seis. The gigantic rapper and record producer is credited for discovering prominent record producer and musician DJ Khaled and Cool and Dre.

Fat Joe released Make it rain at the peak of his career, collaborating with fellow rapper Lil Wayne.

Amapiano music has caused South African artists to change their genres to join the bandwagon. Singer Vusi Nova changed his name for the second time to Snova as he prepares to drop his Amapiano single this weekend. Multi-award-winning rapper Cassper Nyovest also released an Amapiano song, Siyathandana featuring Abidoza and vocalist Boohle.

African artists are also warming up to Amapiano as the genre grows in influence on the continent. Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy featured on a track performed by Mozambican DJ Tarico, Preck and Nelson Tivane titled Yaba Buluku. Zimbabwean amapiano artist Sha Sha won a 2020 BET Viewers Choice Award, and recently another artist, Roki, released a banger produced by Mr Brown.

While South African hip hop is an established genre in the country, Amapiano is becoming more popular than the latter as it is originally South African. Music lovers are always looking for diversity, and they have found a home in Amapiano

Fat Joe moved rhythmically as he played the Amapiano beat. This latest video demonstrates the influence of the genre in the world.
