SA COVID-19: 110 deaths and 5 782 new cases recorded

The COVID-19 positivity rate has reached a record high of 12.7 percent, indicating the country is moving into the third wave.

It’s also recorded the highest number of new infections in months.

The health department said 5,782 new cases have been recorded.

Gauteng accounts for almost 3,000 of those cases.

It’s also seen the highest number of deaths, accounting for 54 of the 110 new deaths.

The recovery rate has also dropped slightly and now stands at 93.5 percent.

The department says it’s monitoring the numbers to see if it is sustained.

It’s calling on South Africans, especially those in Gauteng, to adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols.
