Social Media sees Kelly Khumalo behind bars – Photos

With growing calls for Kelly Khumalo to be cancelled amid the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, irate South African Twitter users have taken it another step further – visualising her in jail!

The singer has faced an onslaught of criticism on social media over years. However, the cyber attacks have stepped up this week after the star was named by defence advocate Dan Teffo as the person who allegedly murdered her soccer star boyfriend.

Senzo Meyiwa died on 26 October 2014 after he was shot and killed in the Vosloorus home of Kelly Khumalo’s mom. Whilst Kelly and five other adults present allege Senzo’s death was a result of a botched robbery, many South Africans are not convinced.

Following Wednesday 1 June’s shocking revelations in the Pretoria High Court by Advocate Teffo, Kelly Khumalo saw her name trend yet again on Twitter.

Many have called for her music to be cancelled and some have even demanded she “confess” to the murder. Others – like Twitter troll “Rumani” – have photoshopped Kelly Khumalo into pictures of prison cells.

Others have followed suit too…

As yet another day draws to a close with policeman Seargeant Thabo Mosia still on the witness stand on Friday 3 June, South Africans are wondering who will be next.

Many tweeps have also expressed interest in who the mystery eyewitness is, as mentioned by Advocate Teffo. Mosia has been grilled for hours on end and has spent nine days in the witness box, reports the Sowetan.

The defence lawyer – representing four out of the five men accused of killing Senzo Meyiwa in an alleged hit – has claimed the accused are merely a “scapegoat”.

He said in court on Wednesday: “I put it to you that a witness will come and testify that Senzo Robert Meyiwa was shot by Nonhlanhla Kelly Khumalo by mistake. The same eyewitness will testify that the firearm used by Kelly Khumalo came with Longwe Twala and that firearm is a revolver”.

It’s unclear who or when the witness will take the stand.

Kelly Khumalo’s lawyer Magdalene Moonsamy has claimed that the singer is ready to testify if and when she is called. Kelly and the five adults present during the shooting: her mother Ntombi, her sister Zandie Khumalo and her boyfriend Longwe Twala, and Senzo’s two other friends Tumelo Madladla and Mthokozisi Thwala, have been named on a recently unearthed second 2019 police docket as suspects in the murder.

Speaking to eNCA on Thursday, Moonsamy relayed Kelly Khumalo’s message that she is now “going to now break the silence”. She continued: “She’s confident. Kelly is a person of high spirits you don’t get to that level without character development and building”.
