Residents marched on Tuesday, 26 April to demand better service from their local police station.
The people of Orlando East in Soweto said whenever they went to Orlando Police Station for help, they were told there were not enough resources to assist them.
A community leader, who asked to be referred to as Brenda M, said they wanted more cops to be hired.
“Preference should be given to people who live in and around Orlando East.
“This is to make sure the community is served by those with its best interests at heart,” she said.
“We want the current station commander to leave, and we demand that the station be fully equipped. This is not a spaza shop,” said Menzi.
Nonkululeko Mahamba said the station needed more investigating officers.
Gauteng police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said a memorandum was received by the station’s management, and they’ll study it and get back to residents.
