The upcoming Adidas X Gucci collaboration includes a $1,290 (roughly R20 000) umbrella that is not waterproof and is meant to be used for decorative purposes.
According to international media, Gucci and Adidas have received backlash for this umbrella in countries like China where it is said that it is ridiculously priced. The product details do specify that this item is not waterproof and is meant for sun protection or decorative use.
The umbrella features a G-shaped handle and a print design combining the logos of both brands.
In China the umbrella reportedly costs 11,000 yuan (more than R26,000). Many have taken to social media to express their dismay at the price tag of this luxury item.
It is not yet clear whether the luxury item will be sold in South Africa as well. The Gucci X Adidas collection is expected to be released on 7 June 2022.
