Zozibini Tunzi speaks out after being crowned as Miss Universe – I was never considered beautiful

Our queen Zozibini Tunzi said some of the most interesting and inspiring quotes in the lead up to being crowned Miss Universe.

When Steve Harvey asked her what was the most important thing we should be teaching our young girls today.

I want children to look at me and see my face, and I want them to see their faces reflected in mine”

Zozi said that it’s leadership.

I think it has been lacking in girls and women for a very long time…not because we don’t want to but because of what society has labelled women to be. I think we are the most powerful beings in the world and that is what we should be teaching these young girls to take up the space- nothing as important as taking up space in society and cementing it,” she said.

Zozi said she grew up in a world where women who looks like her were never considered to be beautiful.

With my kind of skin and my kind of hair, I was never considered to be beautiful. And I think that it’s time that that stops today. I want children to look at me and see my face, and I want them to see their faces reflected in mine,” said Zozi.

She continued: “I like to self-affirm every single morning, I look at myself in the mirror and say, ‘you’re beautiful, capable and you’re intelligent’. This week I’ve been listening to ‘Brown Skin Girl’ just to activate that black girl magic.
