Zinhle Thembisile Happiness Masango (27) and Mfundo Clement Fankomo (33) met in 2013. “I was accompanying my friend,” she says. “Then on my way back, I met him. He was with his friend and driving a BMW. He parked the car and greeted me. He was shy as he is from day one.” She says she gave him her phone number.
“When I got home, I told Phindile [my sister] that I met this handsome guy,” she says. “He’s driving a BMW, he’s decent. I feel he’s the one for me. He came to visit me on the very same day. He was alone this time around. I walked out with my sister. I’m sure he was surprised that I was coming with my sister on our first date.”
Mfundo initially thought that Zinhle’s sister was good for him, 😳 but gave it a second thought. He and Zinhle carried on taking and she realised she was interested in him so they started dating. She likes that he gives her the freedom to be herself. She says: “When I say I want to go out with girls, it’s a weekend away, he doesn’t question me. He doesn’t go to church, but he knows I go to church every Thursday and Sunday. I love that he doesn’t control me.”
Zinhle says Mfundo is very shy. “Sometimes when we argue, as most couples do, and I’ll shout at him, he will just keep quiet. He just becomes so quiet, you’d swear he’s not even there. Like I said, you get used to your partner. I love him just the way he is. No one is perfect.”
A man of few words, Mfundo says: “I’m happy with her. Every time I come back from work, she’s at home. On Thursdays, I know she’s at GNF church group. She goes to church and comes back before 21:30.”
At the end of 2015, he told he’d pay lobola. But it was only at the end of the following year a date was set up for his family to visit hers to make the formal arrangements. “When he said that, I was very happy,” she says. 💗
