Zanzou director breaks silence on Pretoria nightclub torture allegations

Zanzou director breaks silence on Pretoria nightclub torture allegations! Weeks after horrific videos emerged showing men being tortured at Pretoria nightclub Zanzou, the club’s director, Neo Moela, has spoken out for the first time.

Moela appeared alongside well-known attorney Zola Majavu on Tuesday morning at a media briefing, where he addressed allegations about his involvement—or lack thereof—in the disturbing incidents.

Moela Denies Involvement, Condemns ‘Despicable Acts’

During the briefing, Majavu made it clear that Moela strongly condemns the gruesome acts that took place at Zanzou. The attorney stated that his client had no prior knowledge of the torture until the videos surfaced.

“He apologises to those whose human rights were trampled on,” Majavu said, emphasizing that there is no justification for what happened at the club.

The allegations first came to light after whistleblower Pablo shared videos exposing the brutal treatment of individuals at the venue. The footage sparked widespread public outrage and demands for justice.

Despite being implicated in the videos, Moela insists he had no role in the violence and has expressed willingness to cooperate fully with law enforcement.

Committed to Cooperating with Police

Majavu dismissed suggestions that Moela was trying to evade accountability, saying:

“You are not dealing with someone who is not willing to take accountability. If he becomes a person of interest, he will cooperate. He is not above the law.”

He also addressed speculation that the press conference was a damage control effort, stating that Moela had no intention of fleeing the country and that he was ready to support police investigations.

Legal Implications and Arrests

Majavu acknowledged that directors of establishments can sometimes be held legally liable for incidents occurring at their venues. However, he maintained that Moela was not attempting to shift blame, but rather to clear his name.

“If Moela was to become a suspect, I undertake to take him by the scruff of his neck and take him to the police,” Majavu stated firmly.

One suspect has already been arrested in connection with the disturbing events at Zanzou. The 41-year-old accused is facing eight counts of compelled sexual assault and six counts of assault with grievous bodily harm.

Majavu reiterated that this individual has no ties to Moela, stressing that the nightclub director was not involved in the violent incidents.

Public Calls for Justice

The videos of torture have ignited massive public outcry, with many calling for swift action against those responsible.

While Majavu urged the media and public to respect the victims, he also emphasized that Moela is not evading responsibility and remains in full support of the legal process.

Moela: ‘I Am Not Going Anywhere’

During the press briefing, Majavu assured the public that Moela has no plans to leave South Africa, reinforcing that he is a young entrepreneur with a bright future and is prepared to face the consequences if necessary.

“My client felt that it was important as a South African to come out. He is not about to leave the country. He is a young entrepreneur with a bright future,” Majavu said.

As the investigations continue, authorities will work to determine the full extent of Moela’s involvement, if any, while ensuring justice for the victims of these heinous crimes.
