Five Robbery Suspects Arrested in Seshego Policing Area

In a significant breakthrough for law enforcement in Limpopo, police have arrested five suspects believed to be involved in a string of armed robberies in the Seshego policing area. The operation, which took place on Thursday, 12 February 2026, was described by authorities as intelligence-driven and marked another strong example of coordinated policing efforts in the region.

The arrests came after members of the Provincial Tracking Team, Provincial Investigations Unit, and the Polokwane Flying Squad acted on credible information that a group of suspects had just committed a robbery in Ga-Manamela village and were fleeing the scene in two vehicles: a white Toyota Corolla and a pink Chevrolet Spark.

Targeted Operation Leads to Arrests

Police spotted the vehicles on Matlala Road and tracked them to Sengatane village, where officers stopped both cars and conducted searches. Inside the vehicles, officers discovered a range of items that raised immediate suspicion, including:

  • Two 9mm pistols
  • Five live rounds of ammunition
  • Eighteen cellphones
  • One laptop
  • Seven pairs of designer shoes
  • Multiple pieces of designer clothing

None of the five suspects, all aged between 25 and 30, could provide documentation proving legal ownership of the items in their possession, prompting their arrest. Preliminary police investigations suggest the group may be linked to multiple armed robberies in the Seshego, Matlala, and Phaudi policing precincts, where victims were reportedly threatened at gunpoint and robbed of valuable belongings.

Charges and Court Appearance

The suspects now face several serious charges, including robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of unlicensed firearms, possession of unlicensed ammunition, and possession of suspected stolen goods. They are scheduled to make their first court appearance on Monday, 16 February 2026, at the Seshego Magistrate’s Court.

Law enforcement officials are urging anyone who may have been robbed in the areas mentioned to come forward with documentation or information that could help connect the suspects to specific incidents. Community cooperation is being viewed as a key element in strengthening the ongoing investigations.

Police Praise and Public Appeal

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, publicly commended the multidisciplinary operation, highlighting the importance of intelligence sharing and rapid response in cracking down on organised crime.

Local residents have welcomed the arrests, expressing relief that proactive policing efforts are yielding results. However, many community members are also calling for continued vigilance, emphasising that crime prevention requires not only law enforcement action but also active engagement from neighbourhoods and civil society.

What This Means for Seshego

These arrests are part of a broader campaign by the South African Police Service (SAPS) to target organised criminal networks that have plagued several policing areas, including Seshego and surrounding villages. The high number of stolen goods seized — especially cellphones and designer items — suggests the suspects may have been operating in multiple locations, possibly selling or trading ill-gotten property.

Police have reiterated that investigations are ongoing, and more arrests could follow as detectives piece together evidence and seek to link the suspects to additional cases.

For now, the successful operation serves as a reminder of the impact of coordinated policing, and a call to action for community members to remain alert and report suspicious activity as part of the fight against crime.
