The ANC’s Provincial Executive Committee has resolved Ethekwini Mayor, Zandile Gumede, is to take 30 days leave of absence until her fate is finalised.
She’s been under pressure to step aside, pending the outcome of her fraud and corruption case.
Gumede’s currently out on bail with strict conditions attached.
The party’s PEC has been meeting in Empangeni this weekend to discuss the Durban Mayors future, among other issues.
The body on Saturday reminded Gumede of the party’s policy that those charged need to temporarily step aside.
The mayor has resisted calls to resign.
