A tragic incident has sent shockwaves through both the Young Nigerian and Ghanaian communities, as a 19-year-old upcoming Young Nigerian artiste, known simply as Destiny, was brutally beaten to death in Ghana’s Volta Region. The heartbreaking event reportedly occurred on May 28, 2025, and has since sparked outrage and calls for justice.
According to information gathered by PUNCH Metro, Destiny, who hailed from Edo State, Nigeria, had recently relocated to Ghana to pursue higher education and expand his artistic career. He was reportedly lured into the country by someone he referred to as a “street brother”—a fellow Young Nigerian living in Ghana who facilitated his travel, provided accommodation, and introduced him to a business venture.
However, things took a deadly turn when a dispute allegedly arose regarding funds related to this business. Destiny was accused by the very people who had helped him settle in Ghana of failing to remit money owed from the venture.
According to sources familiar with the incident, three men—led by the Young Nigerian man who initially helped Destiny relocate—stormed his apartment to confront him. When Destiny failed to give satisfactory answers about the alleged missing funds, the confrontation escalated into a violent assault.
“He went to Ghana to further his education,” a source close to the family revealed under the condition of anonymity. “The same people who facilitated his travel later accused him of diverting some funds meant for the business. This led them to attack him at his apartment. The beating was so intense that he couldn’t survive it. He died from the injuries.”
Destiny reportedly succumbed to his injuries shortly after the assault. The attackers fled the scene, and Destiny’s lifeless body remained in the apartment for days before being discovered by local police.
Another source told PUNCH Metro that the Ghanaian police were alerted and dispatched officers to the scene, where Destiny’s body was recovered. However, as of the time of reporting, no arrests had been made in connection with the killing.
“We were told that the police found his corpse a few days after the beating, but no one has been arrested yet. The Young Nigerian community here is in shock, and we’re calling on the Ghanaian authorities to investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice,” the source added.
Who Was Destiny? Young Nigerian Dreamer With Big Aspirations
In a video clip obtained by PUNCH Metro, Destiny was seen introducing himself with pride and optimism about his future.
“I am Destiny and I am a streamer from Nigeria. I want to apply to Streamers University, and this will be a great joy for me, my mother, and everybody. I am also an artiste and a gamer. I do all sorts of things,” he said in the video.
The young Nigerian had dreams of making it in the music and gaming industries, both of which are gaining popularity among youth in West Africa. His death has left his family devastated and his community searching for answers.
Destiny’s death is the latest in a string of tragic incidents involving Nigerians abroad. In April 2025, PUNCH Metro reported the death of 77-year-old Nigerian Uber driver, Olatunji Bolaji, who was fatally shot in Philadelphia, United States, while on duty.
